The Rev. Nancy Creason has served as a pastor for 25 years, including 14 years as an elder in full connection.  As an ordained minister, she considers her duties as a pastor to be her calling and privilege.  She is a very outgoing and friendly person and a team player.  She considers her sermons to be honest words for thinking people.

Most recently, she served as senior pastor at First UMC Hempstead and Lynn Grove UMC.  As pastor in charge of evangelism at Lakewood UMC, there was a substantial membership increase.  As pastor in charge of contemporary worship at St. John’s UMC in Richmond, attendance more than doubled.  In previous churches her duties also included Bible studies, missions, and pastoral care/counseling along with the other general pastoral responsibilities.

Nancy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from University of Houston / Clear Lake and her Master’s of Divinity degree from Southern Methodist University / Perkins.  Nancy husband’s name is Steve and they have a 4 year old son named Cooper.


Lavena Linhart, Director of Music and Fine Arts, has been on staff at Terrace since September 1985.  She served as Children’s Choir Director and then in 1987 as Director of Music and Fine Arts.  Lavena attended Houston Baptist University and  taught K-4th grade music at St. Francis Episcopal Day School for 13 years, retiring in 2010.  Over the past 25 years she has produced many children’s musicals in addition to multi-generational shows such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph, Godspell, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Annie, Peter Pan, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Jungle Books, and  Aladdin.  Her Kidz Theatre Program at Terrace is one of the most successful theater programs in Spring Branch and boasts over 50 boys and girls.  They meet every week to learn about theater, music and performance. Lavena has been a member of Terrace since 1985 and mother to Bobby, Brian, Debbie, Kim & Sharon. Her spare time is spent with her grandchildren and children.

Mary E. Fitzgerald, Business Manager, has been in church business managment since 1999.  She has studied and taken many courses on church and business managment including studies through Houston Community Colleage and Southwest Texas Baptist Theological Seminary.  Mary has been a Methodist since 7th grade and is currently a member at Terrace United Methodist Church.  She is also the Business Manager at St. Matthew's United Methodist and does her best to keep both church's financial information clear, clean and up to date.  It is extremely important to Mary to keep up to date with the constant tax and legal issues confronting churches.  She is a member of the Church Network, a professional association of church business administrators, and takes regular continuing education seminars.  Mary and her husband Mark have been married for almost 30 years, have three children and six of the cutest grand kids you ever saw!  

Candy Grasty, Director of Senior Adult Ministries, is a lifelong member of Terrace and a third-generation native Houstonian.  She has played Handbells since the handbell choir’s inception in 1981, serves as coordinator for the A/V Projection Team, is a member of the Fine Arts Committee, and has appeared in the church’s musical productions for more than 20 years.  Her favorite role (so far) has been playing the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz”.  Candy grew up in Spring Branch and graduated from Rice University with a degree in Economics and Managerial Studies.  She has held the professional designation of Certified Financial Planner since 1985.  Candy married Chase Grasty at Terrace in 1999. She is stepmom to Jason and Lauren and enjoys visiting her grandbaby Helena and grandbaby Tavi!

Sharon Barnett, Interim Executive Director

Sharon joined Terrace United Methodist Church in 1987. At the time she was attending the University of Houston Downtown full time and was quickly recruited by Terrace Weekday Programs (Big Little School) to work as a teacher in the summer program and during the school year she was a teacher assistant 3 days a week and the lead teacher 2 days a week. Her role with the school expanded quickly as the Administrator, Lynn Kubik asked her if she would work hand in hand with her to expand the school and become a 5 day a week fulltime preschool. They added the first 2 modular buildings and after a couple of years purchased a van to start the after school program. Her daily duties during the expansion were to close the school, write the curriculum for the afternoon program as well as oversee the teaching staff and communicate with the parents. After she obtained her degree in business she was promoted to financial director. Her duties included but were not limited to, tours of the facility, receivables, payables, Quickbooks, deposits, quarterly tax reports and human resource duties. After 9 years at BLS and the expansion complete Sharon felt called to a different mission. She was approached by a consultant to go work for Woodlake Square Children’s Center. An individually owned for profit center that was in deep financial trouble to work with another director to help get it back on its feet. Her duties were networking with parents, doing tours of the facility and taking care of payables, receivables, payroll and budgets. Within 2 years Sharon and the other hired director had the center up and turning a profit. After 10 years at the for profit center she was approached by another nonprofit, The Parish School. They asked her to work in the business office as they transitioned to their new, 10 million facility. She worked with several consultants to help restructure and implement a budget that went from 2 million dollars to 3 million dollars in 1 year. After this task was complete Sharon decided to take a leave of absence from the working world to be a stay at home mom for a while. After 2 years of leave, she was offered a part time position with a small pest control company doing basic accounting as well as payables, receivables, sales tax and payroll taxes. This position allowed her to continue to volunteer at her children’s schools and be present at all of their events. In 2014 she decided to start her own company with a business partner which is still functioning today.

Sharon has been married to her husband, Kevin for 29 years and has a son Korey who will graduate from Texas A&M August 10 then begin his fulltime position with the A&M football team August 11. Her daughter, Kassie is in her second year at Blinn and will transfer to A&M in the fall of 2019.
